Shortie summer kimono jacket in patchwork silks
Background image is from a range of small murals featuring Peruvian plant spirits painted in the tropical biome of Eden Project, Cornwall. Bromeliad Colita de Gavilan (Billbergia sp.) is depicted as the headdress of the spirit.
- Fabrics came from two dresses with interesting border prints with circular motifs positioned for sleeve edging.
- Blue was chosen as a contrast colour, by adding blue patch on to top of collar.
- Kimono type collar is created by wide strip sewn to neck and front edgings. Using a seam at back neck, a slope can be created by cutting at an angle, narrower at top back neck.
- Sleeves are simply slits in a large rectangle, which has an added 4 inch strip (blue tartan) inset below armhole space for better shaped fit.

Sleeves showing turquoise lining contrast. Silk painted detail of 'medicine wheel' design, blue circular with 4 divisions for the elements, feathers and DNA shaped spirals. Design washed out paler after steaming too long, so stitching is used to highlight outlines. Machine stitched symbols also.

Kimono Happy buyer Jacqui
Silk kimono sold to Jacqui when my garments were in local organic fabrics shop. Length appears shorter on taller woman than when fitted on dummy during making.

MEDICINE WHEEL SUNDRESS
A similar medicine wheel design was created then fitted into a front panel on this blue/brown sundress. I often stay with a colour scheme for 2 to 3 garments. Structure is made up 'ad hock' as I worked. Side flounces are a useful idea for fuller hips. (See pattern shape here) The dark tones of blue and brown work well, and I think the painting needs some brown and blues adding to blend better.
